Why are you installing 5.0?
I have to install 5.0 first before the 6.5 Upgrade will install.
If my memory is correct you only have to have the disks handy so you can insert one as proof of upgrade eligibility.
Give that a go.
When I put the 6.5 upgrade CD in, the "Adobe PageMaker 6.5" menu appears with varies program choices
If I click on "Install PageMaker 6.5", I can hear the disk spin up to speed, then it drops back to an idle, then eventually shuts off, but no program loading activity.
Do you think the partially installed 5.0 may be a problem? Should I clean out the ALDUS and PM5 subdirectories? I can't do an uninstall because it was never "installed".
Thanks for the fast reply,
I don’t know and PM 6.5 is more than 15 years old.
There’s no telling whether you disks are any good at this point.
Honestly, I think you need to give this up and move to a more modern application. Scribus is free and open source. Serif Page Plus is about $99.
Either would be far better than trying to use this dinosaur of a program.
Is there an existing program that can open existing PM files?
We have a lot of "play-specific tickets" sheets, play-specific programs. Being able to start with something and making minor changes would be desirable.
We help home-schooled kids have drama experience.
So learning a new program and recreating these projects from scratch would be not impossible but difficult. (we're over 70)
I thought I read in another's discussion that In-Design (or something) CS6 could open PM files.
If you have trouble installing from CD, copy the CD to a folder on your desktop first. Always worth a try, and if the disk won't read you get a much more clear error.
