    Fatal Exception

    kbrimgordon
Hello, I am using Dreamweaver MX Windows, and in the past week I am getting an error that shuts me down when I: 1: try to change the name of a file from the Dreamweaver site panel (you know, the "geneology tree" thingie on the right side window. I'm not sure of the correct nomenclature to use) or: 2: when I try to open the assets panel.

When I do either one of these things, it immediately gives me an error that says: "Dreamweaver encountered a fatal exception. Dreamweaver will now terminate."

Any ideas of what I can do to fix this? I'm hoping I don't have to re-install my software. If that IS the answer, I need to know how to save all my site information so I don't have to manually add all my sites back in. Hopefully that is possible...

      Thanks,
      Kbrimgordon

This will take care of your site definition backup problem.

Which version of DMX are you using? 6.0 or 6.1?

            I am using version 6.0.

I just installed MM Exporter, and opened it. What do I do now? I'm not much of a geek I'm afraid.

You follow the directions in the Exporter. It will export your site
definitions, FTP info, and other DW info in one pass.

Also, you must update your DMX6.0 to DMX6.1 at your earliest opportunity -
there were quite a few bugs in 6.0.

You save it somewhere safe - on your hard drive, a CD, a thumb-drive, a
<shudder> floppy, wherever. When you need it, it'll be there.

Sorry - I don't know what you mean. Before trying to troubleshoot your
problem, I want to be sure you are on a stable platform. DMX was not that.
Please use the link I gave you to update your DMX from 6.0 to 6.1.

In other words, I don't want to spend time troubleshooting something that
turns out to be a DMX 6.0 problem, you know?

Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?

OK, now I understand more where you are going. I already upgraded to 6.1. I'm guessing that might have taken care of the glichy errors, but now I have no sites defined. I'm assuming that's what I'll use the backup for that I exported with MM-exporter? Can you walk me through how to get the stuff I exported back into the newly upgraded DW? Thanks, Kbrimgordon

I did a "full DW backup" from MM-Exporter, which is saved on my hard drive. Then I upgraded to 6.1, then I opened MM-Exporter and clicked on the Import tab, and clicked the check-box for DW-MX, then I checked the boxes "Resore Settings", and "Restore Configuration Folder". then clicked "Import". Then after about 1 second it said it was finished. I restarted my computer then opened Dreamweaver, and there are no sites there. I have tried to figure out if there was another way to import them , but with no luck. Can you help?

failed. I'm sure it's not the exporter, though....
