    Exporting into pdf

What do you do when InDesign stops responding in the middle of exporting a book into pdf?

          Troubleshoot using the divide-and-conquer method.

          • Export each book document individually until you find the problematic one.
          • Then, export that document in halves to identify the problematic half.
          • Then, export that half-document in halves to identify the problematic fourth.
          • Then, export that fourth-document in halves to identify the problematic eighth.
          • And so on until you identify the problematic page.
          • Then if necessary, apply a similar approach to eliminating possible problematic elements of that page.

I've had this happen frequently when exporting book files that are structurally complex (IE placed architectural drawings combined with multiple additional layers / transparency).  I've tried John's method and found each individual file exports fine on its own, but as an entire book stops responding.

If each individual file exports fine on its own, try exporting the book in smaller groups of documents (how many depends on the number of pages and how complex they are), then combining in Acrobat.
