Do you still have the catalog file (or a backup of the catalog file) from Lightroom 2?
When you were using Lightroom 2, did you instruct Lightroom to write the metadata to XMP? (sounds like you didn't, but I ask anyway)
Do you mean for example: 2013-04-09 1725, which when clicked on opens to Lightroom 2 Catalog.Ircat ? When I go into Lightroom 5: File: Open Catalog: 2013-04-09 1725: Lightroom 2 Catalog.Ircat: Open, I get the message " Lightroom cannot launch with this catalog. It is either on a network volume or on a volume on which Lightroom cannot save changes " " The catalogs location is/ volumes/Lacie/2013-04-09 1725 "
Yes, that is a backup of your LR2 catalog file. You need to find the most recent one available (obviously, that backup was made on 2013-04-09), and then copy it to a hard drive on your computer (internal or external) but not a network drive, and then open it in Lightroom 5. You should see that all of your photos have a place in the grid, but won't have a thumbnail and there may be a question mark icon on each folder.
To fix the question mark on each folder, please read: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders and then the thumbnails will appear as well
Figure it out, your help was greatly appreciated, thanks
