This is America. The 4th = getting drunk and playing with explosives.

That's not a good combination. I had to fly a guy to the hospital Monday
who got drunk and blew off a good portion of his right hand with a
quarter stick of dynamite. Oh well, job security.

Much like last night when I flew a woman who got hit in the eye by a
rocket. We do love our explosives. ;-)

I spent a lot of last night saying Be Careful! Be Careful! Get back farther!
And I only had one drink, and it was just a girly drink at that.

Oh, you are an American. I honestly never realized that before. I'm one
of those crazy Americans who looks at stupidity (as well as brilliance)
from a planet-wide perspective. That is, I believe there are no more
stupid people or brilliant people in America as in the rest of the world
                              (not counting the W3C).

But I certainly am not stupid enough to let this lead into a debate :-)

I kind of like those myself. Then again, I'm one of those people who,
when pressed to choose between a beer and an ice cream soda, will choose
                                      the latter every time :-)

                                              Dave,

The holiday isn't the "4th of July holiday", it is INDEPENDENCE DAY. We (in
the states) celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY on the 4th of July.

Sorry, pet peeve of mine. :-)

There are several holidays that fall on the same date year after year and
none of the other ones are referred to by date. They are all referred to by
the proper title of the holiday.

                                              Examples:
New Years day is Jan. 1 (nobody refers to Jan. 1 celebrations)
Groundhog day is on Feb. 2
Valentine's day is on Feb. 14
St. Patrick's Day is March 17
                                              Flag Day is June 14
                                              Veteran's Day is Nov. 11
                                              Christmas is Dec. 25

There has been great erosion of using the word "Christmas" at Christmas
time, but nobody has yet regulated the holiday to "the Dec. 25th
                                              festivities."

                                              Sorry for the rant,

In Australia, some people (usually employers) refer to Christmas as the end

                                                    Cinco de Mayo?

                                                    May Day?

4th of July has always been synonymous with Independance Day. And does it
