I have been a front end web developer for the past 7 years
considering learning flex to help me find another job. I'm not sure
if this is the right forum but I have some questions and concerns.
How big is the demand for Flex developers?
I am also concerned that most companies would want their
Flex developers to also have graphic design skills. I can only
create very simple graphics and only have simple photoshop skills.
How big of handicap would this be for me?
I have noticed that many Flash developers are really artists
and either don't want to work with code or are intimidated by it.
Indeed, in the past I have jumped in and helped some of them with
ActionScript. I think there is a need for somebody that specializes
in Flex/ActionScript but I'm not sure if most companies see it the
I'm kind of struggling right now and would really appreciate
people's thoughts on this. Thank you.
From what I've found, the people who know what Flex is don't
care about your proficiency at photoshop or other graphic arts
things. Unfortunately, you are very easily confused for a Flash
developer who does need to know graphics and be very artistic. If
you can find a truly Flex job with people who want you to do Flex
work they shouldn't care about the graphics stuff.
That's what I've found to be the case.
