Apologies in advance if this question has been asked and answered, but all I could find was this post: Backwards compatability Id CC to CS6? which didn't answer my question.
I am using the latest ID version from Cloud and I am the only one in my office that has Cloud and the latest version of everything. The others have a disk installation of CS 5.5. When I save to a backward compatible version (Save As > InDesign CS4 or later IDML) it only produces a low-res markup file with no photos. (?) We would like to have a high-res fully operational file. Can anyone tell me the correct way to do this?
The IDML files is not "low-res"; the photos are not in your file, either. They are linked. The IDML preserves the link paths, but removes the previews. Your other users need a copy of the Links folder; they can relink the images and all will be good again.
You have to save the IDML file at the very same place as the INDD file, so that links will work. But with CC2014 you can (and should) package the file and include the IDML and PDF(for proofing it is important), this IDML will work.
