need help on openXLib and hiding mouse

    hwa-jun yu Level 1
      Hi everyone
I'm new to Director programming. I need help on including .dll files to my project. I saw a syntax named "openXLib" on Director MX 2004 Help, but it does not give sufficient example.
And I've been trying to hide mouse in Director. It was a piece of cake in Flash, but it troubles a lot in Director.
Can anyone please post a few lines to solve these two problems?
      Thank you

Not sure about openXLib- that seems to be a way to access methods in
scripting xtras. You would need to create an xtra in order to make use
          of it.

But as far as hiding the mouse, just do this:

          cursor 200

to set it back to default,

          cursor 0

You can have the cursor set player-wide that way, or have it change when
over certain sprites by setting the cursor property of the sprite

          sprite(1).cursor=280

That would set the cursor to a finger when the mouse is over sprite(1)

To see a list of the available cursors, consult the help file under
          "cursor() method"

Thanks to Newsgroup User for the info with hiding the mouse.

openXLib is an outdated method of instanciating Director Xtras and should not
be required anymore. Xtras that do require instanciation typically use the
              new() syntax.

To access dll files, you might want to look into glue32 or other Xtras. I
can't seem to get to updatestage.com* to point you to similar Xtras, but you
can search for them elsewhere if updatestage.com doesn't come up for you.

                Thanks, Mark.
So, I need to download a special xtra to include dll files to Director?
Is there any free xtra with such feature ?

If you need to access the methods in those .dll files with Lingo, yes.

                  Maybe. Have you looked?

updatestage.com is online again, but I'm sure the Adobe Director support site
                  lists Xtras somewhere as well.

I've downloaded glue32.. the registered version is a little expensive, isn't it?
I'm thinking maybe I can use the free Director XDK to make my own xtra.
I've just finished downloading the XDK.
Is it difficult to learn the XDK?

                      There's the spirit!

Sorry, I can't help you there as I've never done it.

IIRC, there's a mailing list you can join?

Probably one of the links on this page:

Thanks for both Mike and Mark for the help.
I've met other difficulties while learning director. I've posted another problems. If you have time, I think I'm gonna need some more help again. Thank you!
