When you have Flash8 you will find a xml driven menu in the program directory > Samples > ActionScript > XML_Menu. All you need to do is write a server side script that returns the xml to Flash.
Yes I know that. Thank you.
But I specified in my posting that I want to use my MySQL DB via PHP.
It's because I don't feel comfortable at all with the family ! :-)
Want to be humorous about parent and child nodes...
XML, even if everybody seem to love it, isn't my cup of tea at all !!!
I prefer, by far, to insert my needs in a MySQL table...
Oh, by the way, it's not really true when I wrote "no matter its look". In reality it does matter.
But I wrote this because I wanted as a first step to focus on the functionality...
xml is just the format that flash can read easily (Flash can not connect to a database without any additional help...). So, you call a php script that connects to the database, gets the results and returns the results in xml format to flash.
If you do not want to use xml (which really is the best option here) you are going to use the LoadVars Class. Or, if you want to return complex objects to Flash, use AMFPHP.
More information: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash and look for 'data integration'. There are a lot of ways to use external data.
Come to think of it, how could one return the required nested structure of a menu without using xml...
You got the point...
Maybe this is too difficult for me... for the time being!
I'll give a try to data integration but have not very much hope...
I think the best will be to follow your advice of using XML despite my bad feeling.
It's not XML itself which I find difficult (structure is easy to understand) but the USE of it in Actionscript...
Thanks for the links!
That's why I gave you the links. Those utility classes make working with xml in Flash very easy.
Please, DON'T LAUGH !!!
I downloaded the utilities.
But there's no Directions of use!
Maybe tomorrow morning my mind will be relax and cool and I'll be able to understand the use of them...
I think I misunderstood something... In my mind: Utility = Application
Maybe you can help me on another topic.
In the Flash General Discussion Forum, go to "Automatic update of Day and Dayweek"
Many thanks in advance!
