Create a folder in your local site called TEST and create copies of your files there. Upload the TEST folder and contents to your server and provide a link to it in the forum (just www.yoursite.com/TEST). Once the problem is found, delete the TEST folder from your server. As long as you don't specifically link to www.yoursite.com/TEST from other parts of your site, and take it down as soon as an issue is solved, the search engine crawlers won't find it. You can also add the follwoing <meta> to test pages...
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">
...to further stop search engines that might accidentally happen across it.
I suggest you procure some web space under a different domain name. A free or very cheap hosting plan might be all you need for this.
I have my own web server so I can upload client projects to a TEST folder on my domain and then take it down when the site goes live on the actual domain server. If there are no links to it, nobody will find it.
Can you recommend any as i have have done this before and have tried a couple of ways using business catalyst but do not know if I'm doing it wrong, or using the wrong thing

BC only works with BC sites. If you try to upload something you create without using a BC template, it won't allow it.
I don't recommend these plans for anything more than temporary hosting.
