What text? What system? what else? Provide a screenshot.
Just the text in my text layer is what's disappearing. I import my image file, drag it onto the board and then click to add a text layer. I type out my text and then go into the effects & presets, select Animation Presets --> Text --> Animate In -->,Straight In MultiLine, drag the effect into the text layer and then my text disappears, as shown in the second image below ...This just recently started happening to me and I don't know how to get it back. I'm using After Effects CS5.5. I'm very new at this programs so I apologize for not being able to provide a ton of info...
You used an Animate In Text animation preset. It goes from NOT being visible to visible. That's what "animate in" means.
I know if's fun to fart around with AE, but do yourself a BIG favor: learn how AE works from the pros:
With AE, you learn to walk, and then you can learn to run. You'll have all sorts of trouble if you try it the other way around.
As Dave says, move forward in your timeline, and you'll notice your text animating into the scene as you told it to do.
I get the concept of Animate In, but when I press play in Preview, the text is just gone. Nothing animates in. It never used to do this, I probably accidentally changed a setting or something. Just wondered if anybody had any idea what might have changed and how to change it back.
I guess I better get started on tutorials then...
Thanks for your help.
I can't quite see because your screen captures are so small, but it looks an awful lot like you've only got a few frames there. You need to make your composition at least a second long or nothing will animate!
Select your text layer and then press the u key twice to reveal all animated and changed properties and look for keyframes. You will find your problem.
