DW8 validates HTML but FW8 won't open it

    Ptrope
Any suggestions? I created a table from slices in FW8, then modified it in DW8 so it would span the entire width of the page. Now, even though DW8 says the HTML is all valid (after I changed a TD tag from "background" to the style for a background image), FW8 only gives an error message that the HTML is invalid and won't open it. (BTW, FW wouldn't open it when it still had the background tag, either)

It would be helpful if FW would note why the HTML is invalid, and possibly open DW to correct it.

          FW doesn't open HTML.

LOL. Sorry, I wasn't clear - the page is a table that i want to modify, and it's the table that is causing Fireworks to choke, but I can't figure out why. I originally created the table in Corel Photopaint and saved it out as a web page, and Fireworks opened that one fine. But when I modified it in Dreamweaver to span the entire width of the page, it became unopenable in Fireworks.

What I don't understand is why the HTML is validated okay in Dreamweaver, but it won't work in Fireworks.

FW does not open HTML pages. FW opens graphics files - .jpg, .gif, .png,
              .psd.

Sorry to argue with you, but Fireworks DOES open HTML files for tables - that's how it imports/reconstitutes/edits them. It's not an issue of whether it will do it at all - I KNOW it will, because I DID it. I'm trying to figure out why it won't open it now because of what it says is invalid HTML, when Dreamweaver has validated the HTML in the table. We're already past the "will it open it under normal circumstances" phase - been there and truly did that; in fact, I have it open right now, after re-exporting the table from Photopaint - it opened just fine from the HTML file. I'm trying to determine what is invalid about the code after modifying it in Dreamweaver, since it doesn't go into any detail. It could be the addition of the page border info, it could be the background image in the TD tag (and I'm also curious why Dreamweaver uses that tag by default and then says it's an invalid tag when it validates it!)

                  Fireworks will open html pages.

On the other hand, I don't know what would cause it not to, after
                  changing the html in Dreamweaver.

Shows how little regard I have for using a graphics program to write HTML.
Why would you do that, anyhow?

What version of DW? And what version of FW are you using?

                        Sorry Murray,

I didn't want to deprive you of your, "why would you use Fireworks to
                        write html?", response.

I pulled pull in one of my email letters that use tables and, it seemed
to slice it up correctly. I'll check later to see how well it really did.

                        Got to go bowling!
