    Uploading & Saving To/From Server

    Shortie2x4
I've always used Frontpage, and since it let me save to the server and work off of it, I'm used to it that way.

But I can't seem to figure out how to do that with Dreamweaver. I've tried just copying the HTML from the website, but the pictures do not come up as the actual photo, but come up as little gray boxes.

Can someone tell me how I set Dreamweaver so that I can get the information right from my server (IE. My Network Places) and save onto the server and not my actual computer??

      THANKS!!

As an experienced web developer, I would just never work this way - it's
much to dangerous in my opinion.

But you can use DW in that fashion by defining your site as an FTP site
(Site Manager -> NEW | FTP and RDS Server). This will let you edit the live
files. There will be NO local site - the remote site *is* the local site.

I don't quite get it. Here is what I have done so far.

Under the Site Definition it askes me - "How do you want to work with your files during development?"

I chose - "Edit directly on server with FTP or RDS"

Then, under - "Where on your computer do you want Dreamweaver to store local copies of your files?"

What do I put there? A file on my computer (ie. folder on desktop)?

Also. I am unsure of what information goes in these sections under "Sharing Files"
~Hostname or FTP address of your Web server? (I put goldenventurefarm.com)
~What folder on the server do you want to store your files in? (I put ftp.goldenventurefarm.com)
~What is your FTP login? (I put ADMIN, as that is what I put in for Frontpage)
~What is your FTP PW? (I put the password used to login for Frontpage)

When I click on "Test Connection" it says Host Found, Connecting then it goes to "FTP error occured - cannot make connection to host. 530 Login Incorrect. Not sure what I did wrong, or even what I did right lol

            Again, THANKS SO MUCH!!

              Try this -

SITE (in DW) | Manage Sites... > New > FTP and RDS Server....

THANKS!! I am just so sick of Frontpage adding TONS of codes that are def. not needed *sigh*

Frontpage and FTP access are two completely different animals which often
                  have different usernames and passwords.

Can you contact your host and confirm you are using the correct FTP info?

                  HTH,

                  Jon
