    Building a Map

    mgnmpi
I am trying to use a world map as a links page to my different portfolios. I am attempting to use LAYERS to make small buttons that popup the country's flags when MouseOver, thenlink to the portfolio. I can't get the different buttons and flags to stay inside the correct country when resizing the browser window. Used pixels and percentages in the locations windows... Any ideas? Is there a better way? I'd appreciate it...

ACE, here is the code...just so you know, I know nothing about code. I am pushing the buttons in DreamWeaver (properties, behaviors, etc), not working strait with the code....just one button is attached...I keep erasing them.

            I appreciate your help!

A dangerous way to go about building web pages. I'd liken it to the
dreading "running with scissors in your hand".

              <img src="../Images%20for%20Website/world2.jpg"

It's best practice not to have spaces in your file/pathnames. Just rename
this folder in DW's file panel so that it manages those links in the pages.

Select that image, and use the image map tools on the Property inspector to
define your various hotspots (consult with DW's F1 Help to read more about
              how to do this).

Believe me, I am sprinting with scissors in my hand.

Thank goodness I don't do this for a living...just trying to figure out enough to keep my webpage alive and interesting.

I admire those who can learn the language...your brains are surely wired differently from mine.

I appreciate very much the tip...thanks. Have a great day!

Good luck, patrick! If you have a lollipop in your mouth while you are
sprinting, you can get permanently grounded, so be careful.

ACE...not sure if you are still following this thread.

What you suggested is working well...placing hotspots over a jpeg image.

Is there a way to have a small .gif popup at the hotspot, over the .jpg map, when mouseover? I have the "hands-on training" book, but can't find a solution anywhere.

                    Thanks, in advance!

Sure - just add a title (and alt) attribute to the respective <area> tag.
Your code won't validate when you do this, but you'll get what you want -

<area alt="this is some text" title="this is more text"....

If that's the case then you will have to do better than title attributes.
Remove them. Then Google for "overlib" and use that approach.
