    Fireworks Image Compression

    Coxdabd Level 1
      Hello there,

I have an image; the quality is extremely good when saved as a GIF. However, the size of the image is 14.2KB - the image has be unfortunately 7KB - quite a difference in size. When I click on 'Save As' and then on 'Options' I can then change the quality to reduce the file size. I need the picture to maintain its quality though but being 7KB. Is there any way of accomplishing this?

I've uploaded a screenshot to demonstrate the quality change: http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o20/coxdabd/ImagePreview.gif

I'd be very grateful if anyone could help.

      All the best,

      Kristopher (UK).

In a word 'no' quality is always a trade-off with image size (kb) however I
am a little confused by your screen shot.

You say in your post that the image is a Gif file yet in your screen shot it
          shows a JPEG setting?
The default setting for a JPEG is 80 which produces very acceptable results
          IMO.
From the little I can see of your image it looks like it will be unsuitable
for a GIF as it has gradients which never work well with GIFS, and give you
          that banding effect.
What size is the image if saved as a JPEG at a compression of 80?

          Peter

            Hello there,

The quality is not quite as good as JPG but the size is 6.88 which is an acceptable size. Sorry for the confusion with the GIF.

            Regards,

            Kristopher (UK).

No problem, I'm glad you got it sorted.

                Coxdabd,

Glad you got it resolved. But at first, I was a bit confused like PJR did earlier.
