AS2.0 will typically work as AS1.0, if you just take out all the typage, like "myNum:Number" just take out the :Number part. There are only a handful of other obscure differences that matter when going 2.0 to 1.0. 1.0 to 2.0 is a little different. But also keep in mind SWF version.
"var" is a keyword to define a variable, specifically as local, not on another object. It can have various implications, and usually is not necessary. In your case, it could be omitted. "val" is just a custom named variable/property assigned to the data of the SharedObject, which can then be loaded again later.

search your c drive for "time.sol" and you'll see where it's stored
