While I have had reasonable success at taking night sky pix, I have yet to "master" the art of post-processing same to bring out the details/areas not otherwise visible. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

That's basically what I do and you can often get to se the milky way even close to urban areas or when dawn is breaking when doing this right: e.g.: Star Photography - lagemaatphoto
