I had an old InDesign file that I was updating on the newest InDesign ( I believe CS8 (?) ). Now, this was on a school computer and because I had tried opening .indd files saved from this school computer (known from here as SC) on my personal computer (PC) and it did not work, I though saving it as an .idml would mean it would open on both my PC and the SC. Unfortunately, I deleted the .indd file and tried opening this .imdl file on my PC and the SC and it crashes on both InDesigns (so, crashes both on versions CS6 + CS9).
Thus, WHAT DO I DO. I really want to be able to access the file on both computers and not lose all this work.
You could try to find an undelete utility; install it on the SC; and see if you can retrieve it from that hard drive.
In terms of version naming, after CS6 comes CC and then CC2014.
I don't know what you mean when you say an undelete utility though
