My serial number keeps getting rejected

Two weeks ago I re-installed the same disc with the same serial number, on my old computer. It crashed then we purchased a new computer and I am trying to install the disc again and now I get an invalid serial number error. How does this happen and how do I fix this?

Your use of the word "invalid" makes the following seem less likely but just in case... If you happen to have activated more than once without ever deactivating then you might have engaged all your available actions (2 total) and need to have the activations reset by asking thru Adobe chat...
