Images placed into ID have gaps in them

I am very new to InDesign. I'm using ID CS3.

In a 45 page photo book I've created, many (maybe 1/3) of the images I've placed into the book have gaps in them when I export to jpeg. The gaps appear as horizontal bars in which the background layer shows through (example attached below).

This is what I've tried so far:

      1.  Relinked all images.

      2.  Converted original images from jpeg to tif

      3.  Placed all linked images into the same directory as the .indd file

      4.  Embedded all images

I exported the file as a pdf and it didn't have this problem. I want to use jpeg, however, so I'd like to figure out what's causing this to happen.

      Thanks
