Additional info: My Aperture Library is shared with iPhoto and is named: iPhoto.photolibrary, so I tried importing it as both iPhoto and Aperture library, uselessly.
Are you using the built in migration tool?
In Lightroom, go to File> > Plug-in Extras >> Import from Aperture Library.
Select the location of your Aperture library and choose a new location for your images.
Click the Options button if you want to change any settings prior to migration.
Click the Import button to start the migration.
Yes, sure, I am using the built in one.
And that import button is Greyed out.
Not sure why it’s not working. If you are using a referenced library it should be possible to link to your masters, but I think most users of Aperture and iPhoto use a managed library.
To preserve your editing adjustments you could export versions with IPTC metadata to the desktop or create new folders in Finder. Then use the import button with “Add”

Thank you but it sounds too long and complicated; before I purchased this Lightroom license I want the import plugin to work flawlessly.
LR6 is expected soon. It may be worth testing that when it arrives, to see if there have been any enhancements to the plug-in.
I found the culprit: I realized I had not enough space on my disk; that's why Import was greyed out; and the software doesn't warn about it.
Had the same issue with LR6 and Aperture 3.6. I could not even select the Aperture Library in the import plugin, the file picker dialog would only show it greyed out.
I suspected it might have something to do with me having already migrated the Aperture Library to the new OSX Photos app, even though I would have thought that was irrelevant, as that only creates references into the Aperture Library.
Nevertheless, one or both of these two actions did it for me (can't tell which, because I had done them both when I realised it suddenly worked):
- Disable the plugin in Lightroom and shut down Lightroom.
- Open Aperture again. It told me that the library could get out of sync with the Photos app if I made changes. I acknowledged that and waited until Aperture had opened it. I then closed Aperture again.
When I then started Lightroom and reactivated the plugin, running it picked up on the Aperture Library automatically.
I am trying to migrate from Aperture 3.6 to LR CC release 2015.4 and the option to launch the plugin under file>Plug-in Extras>Import From Aperture Library... is greyed out, so I can't even get to the point of trying to locate the library. I have several separate Aperture libraries I'd like to import as catalogs but so far I haven't found a solution
