Apparently, before importing the MPEG4 file from my PC to the new PE project, I need to change the default Project Settings.
1) Create new Project
2) Go to Edit, Project Settings, General, Playback Settings
3) Under Real Time Playback, External Device, select "DV".
4) Under Export, select "DV".
5) Then, import video clip from PC.
6) Now, video in Timeline appears on my computer monitor and separate TV (through Canopus box & A/V switcher).
Well.... That didn't work.
New project, Playback/External & Export set to "DV".
Bring in MPEG4 clip, drop in Timeline, displays on Monitor and TV.
No longer able to view Timeline video clip on TV.
Did you get a chance to read the Adobe document on TV/Monitor?
What kind of TV do you have...
a. LCD TV which doubles as TV or PC monitor (VGA Connection).
b. Smart TV where the workspace can be duplicated from computer to TV Monitor (HDMI connection).
Please consider and then let us know the outcome.
- Computer Monitor (where PE11 workspace, timeline are displayed. Timeline plays back here).
- Separate TV Monitor.
- Canopus ADVC110 capture box. 1394 Firewire to Computer. RCA cables (audio/video) out to separate TV Monitor.
(Canopus set to: Analog In)
My HD video clips (AVCHD, MPEG-4) are uploaded from the Camcorder to the PC. From there, I import them into a Project.
I simply want to view Timeline Playback on a separate Monitor WHILE editing & playing back in the Timeline.
Is this not possible for some reason?
(yes, I've read the above article. It seems to address playing back from the Camcorder which is not what I'm doing or want to do).
Just to clarify...
I'm not trying to set up dual computer monitors to view the PE editing screens. I'm trying to view the actual timeline video on a separate monitor during playback.
This used to work fine when I was working on non-HD projects... I have an old TV and newer LCD TV monitor connected view RCA A/V switch box and Canopus ADVC110 capture box to PC via Firewire.
I could view playback from Timeline on editing PC + on the TV monitors at the same time.
Thanks for the replies.
Does your computer have an HDMI port? What I have been doing for my Windows 8.1 64 laptop is making a HDMI connection between the laptop an the TV and setting the computer display to Duplicate. Would that work for you?
Taking your Premiere Elements 11 to 12/12.1 or 13/13.1 I do not believe will work for you for better since after 11 the Playback Settings dialog disappeared. The major information that I have on those playback settings for 11 and earlier are in that Adobe document whose link I posted earlier in your thread.
Please let me know if HDMI is doable for you.
Connecting via HDMI would only provide a duplicate of the PE workspace on a separate monitor. I'm actually trying to PLAY the Timeline video on this other monitor, like I was able to do when working on simple DV projects. Now for some reason, the Playback settings goes into delighted mode as "None" after setting it up when I'm working with HD clips.
