I'm away from my main computer for a bit, but I'm trying this when I get back in.
The file I'm working on was created a year ago, and I'm finding many weird settings that I have to make right (my own fault).
Also with no text frame active rest the number of columns to 1. It's pretty likely it's being applied as a default override and just editing a style wont fix that. Ands for good measure make sure that you don't have an object style with multiple columns selected as the default text frame style.
Thanks for all of your help guys.
Fixing the Basic Text Frame Object Style settings worked!
Despite my best efforts I can't seem to be able to create a new text box that doesn't resize as soon as I paste text inside it.
Does anyone have a clue how to work around this, and what might be causing it?
It's only on some documents - no matter what I select in the object options, I always end-up with a frame that auto-resize as soon as I paste text inside it.
Go to Object > Text Frame Options > Auto-Size. One of the settings must be turned on.
