I want to create a shape in After Effects so I can change it to 3 D and extrude etc. I am in photoshop and create a workpath from the selection I made of part of the picture that I want to make into a 3d shape. I copy it as a workpath. Then apply it to the rectangular shape I created in AE. The shape then takes the form of the workpath. Then when I go to 3D it changes it back to the rectangular shape. How can I get it to keep the shape that was the original workpath?
The only two ways I know to do that start in Photoshop. The first way is to copy your path inside Photoshop a single path at a time, then start a new shape layer in After Effects using the pen tool. After the first click just paste.
The second way is to take your PSD into Illustrator, preserve the paths, organize the paths into layer, then import the AI file as a comp and convert the vector layers to shape layers.
Just thought of another way. If your work path creates an alpha channel you could use autotrace to turn that Alpha into a path.
That was helpful thanks
