I have had CC now for a year, but have continued to use LR5 licensed copy rather than install the CC version... If I install the CC version, will I be able to keep the ver 5 as well?

You cannot keep two copy of same version of Lightroom on one machine.

They are technically identical, so it's completely irrelevant. CC will only take over the licensing, so just deactivate your standalone LR version.
