    curtain close

I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and I am curious if there is any effect/transition that will end the frame with a curtain close, coming  from the sides of the frame?

The first thought that comes to mind for your Premiere Elements 10 Windows curtain transition is

          Edit Header

          Transitions

          Video Transitions

          3D Motion

          Curtain

You would see this and it would be for a Curtain Open. Here I have placed the transition and double clicked it to open its adjustment area, but I have done nothing with the transition adjustments yet.

          curtain open.jpg

Now, I scroll down in the transition adjustments area to its bottom, and put a check mark next to Reverse.

You now have your Curtain Closed.

A variation on this might be to use

          Edit Header

          Transitions

          Video Transitions

          Page Peel

          Center Peel

and use the Reverse perk in the transition adjustments area.

Please let us know if any of those works for you.

          Thank you.

            Hey ATR,

Thanks for the tip. I was able  to utilize curtain transition and reverse it but it's not the effect I am lookig for, unless of course I am not  using it  properly.   I would like the curtain to pull  in a black frame as this is how the film would  be ending. Is there any variation I can try?

Curtain and Page Peel looks apparently were not what you envisioned.

              How about this -

              Edit Header

              Transitions

              Video Transitions

              Wipe

              Barn Doors

(with Reverse selected in transition adjustments area after application of the transition at the Timeline level).

                Hey ATR,

Sorry for the delay in responding to this. I wanted to step away for a week because I  was hitting a wall. My clip  for  the transition is bumped  up  against a black mattte  and  after adding the various transitions, it doesn't seem to  do anything.   It makes the effect if it is bumped  up  against another clip but not  against the black mattte. I felt like I was doing something really stupid but  wanted to check in again.

What is the ordering of the clip and black video

                  a. clip, then black video

                  or

                  b. black video, then clip

What is the Barn Doors transition alignment that you are using?

                  If I use,

                  clip, then black video

                  and

                  Center at Cut transition alignment

                  that seems to work.

                    Hey ATR,

It is clip and then black video.  I am going to try everything again from the top again with a fresher perespective.  I'll let you know how it goes.

                    Thanks!

                      Thanks for the follow up.

Please give what I suggested another look. Do not take any of the transition adjustments for granted, especially the transition alignment in the transition adjustments area.

We will be watching for your results.

In reflection, the barn door look is more closing with right and left black areas meeting to give a black frame rather than the look of an actual curtain closure.

Okay good news. Got it to work using the center peel with a reverse. I had inadvertantly  skipped that second test  option initially.

                        Thanks ATR!

                          Thanks for the update.

Glad that you got your Premiere Elements 10 closing curtain effect done with the video transition Center Peel (reverse). I am not sure I would have gone for that one. But, if it works in context with your plan, great news. And, great job staying with the goal to find that transition effect that worked for you.

                          As always, best wishes
