By far the easiest way to create bar graphs in AE is to simply animate them by hand. Here's one method:
Another option is to use scripting and expressions to turn you data into animation. Without knowing exactly what you are trying to reproduce it's hard to give you specifics. Here's an approach using expressions:
Thanks, those two videos were actually where I started in all of this. I was able to make the bar graphs, and actually several other types of graph. Everything functions very well.
Here is an example. The three sections move independently, and dynamically adjust to each other.
I have a Null Object that I am using to control the bars.
What I want to be able to do is parse the data from the json, so that all updates to the data can be made there in one place instead of adjusting each individual slider for each bar.
Does that make sense?
That's going to require scripting. I'd move your questions to that sub forum: After Effects Scripting
The other option is to buy an existing script: http://aescripts.com/infocharts-creator/
Unless you have a bunch of these to do on an ongoing basis it would probably be quicker to just do the animations by hand.
Thanks, I'll move it over there.
I'll check out that script you linked to.
I do have a lot of these to make on an ongoing basis, so any kind of time saving is a necessity.
Thanks for the quick response.
I have used the chart creator in the past for a client that I no longer have. It uses a simple CSV data file and is very fast. I figure that it cost me about 1/10 what it would have cost me in time to write the script myself.
