Select the images from one catalog and Save Metadata (command/control S). In the other catalog select the images and seect Read Metadata from file. These commands are in the Metadata main menu.
This didn't work, at least not the way I did it. I did:
Open LR5, select images, save metadata to files, close LR5.
Open LR6, select images, read metadata from files. Edits I see in LR5 are not present in LR6.
What am I doing wrong?
I still have no solution to this problem. The suggestion above to Save Metadata in one catalog then Read Metadata in the other did not work, and the lightroom reference pdf, under Metadata basics and actions (pg 139) seems to indicate metadata does not include edit information. So is there a way to copy my edits for a photo or photos from one catalog to another?
Thanks again for any assistance.
I discovered the solution myself. I used the "Import from Another Catalog" function on the File menu as described here, and specified my LR5 catalog as the catalog to import from. Because the LR5 catalog is from an earlier LR version, it prompted me to upgrade it before importing. I chose to "Discard Upgraded Catalog After Import". Once the upgrade finished, I selected the photos I wanted to import, and in the New Photos area, for "File Handling:" I specified "Don't import new photos". In the Changed Existing Photos area for "Replace:" I specified "Metadata and Develop settings only", and just to be safe I checked the "Preserve old settings as a virtual copy" box. This worked perfectly.
