Please describe a bit more what you are trying to do.
There is not Download in LR and there is no Adobe Camera RAW needed in/with Lightroom.
What camera are you importing from?
What are the exact steps you are using?
What are the error messages you are getting?
I using a Canon 5DMark3. and 1DMark3. When I try to import I get a message, "Do you want to scan and fix EOS Digital (F)? and Preview not available for this file. Some photos appear but I cannot transfer to the right side of the import screen into a folder. When I hook up my old computer everything works fine. thanks for your comment. I am using LR 4.4.1 with Photoshop CS6.
I am using LR 4.4.1 and Photoshop CS6. Downloading from a Canon 5D Mark 3 and a 1D Mark 3. On my old system Vista 32 bit, everything was perfect. Upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. When I try to import photos I get the following message, "Preview unavailable for this file, but some of the photo previews are available. I cannot get any of the photos to the right side where they are assigned a folder. When Camera Raw 7.4 was downloaded from Adobe website, should I use "run" or "Save"?
You don't need Camera Raw to work with LR. LR has it's own Camera Raw engine internally. It makes no difference for LR if an which version of ACR you have installed. ACR is needed for CS, though.
Are you shooting RAW or JPG?
Could you please post a screen-shot of the message you get?
What do you mean with the "right side"?
Thank you for helping. I am shooting RAW. The right side of the import careen of LR is for File Handling, File Naming, Apply During Import, and Destination Folder of the photos being imported. I am importing by using a Card Reader. The messages I get are "Preview unavailable for this file", which appears where the photo should be displayed before importing. When I click "import", lower right side of LR, the photos disappear.
"Do you want to scan and fix EOS Digital (F)?
Sounds exactly like a failing card to me - Windows is kicking in with the message because it thinks there's a problem with the card.
Bad card reader or bad CF card is probably not the problem because I can and did download the photos into my old computer Windows Vista 32 Bit. I did this because I photographed a engagement proposal at the bottom of a popular water fall in East Tenn.
and I needed to review the photos.
Could you share/upload to "somewhere" one of the photo files in question?
Not sure how to do that, but I did the following, inserted the CF card into my monitor and connected to computer without using the Card Reader, and so far LR is working as usual. I am going to purchase another Card Reader from BH Photo. My old Card Reader has been used 100's of times. I do appreciate your interest and help in this problem and I hope a new Card Reader will solve all my problems. I love LR since being introduced to LR by Bill Campbell a friend and writer to Outdoor Photographer magazine.
It was not the card but it appears to be the card reader. I gave the card reader to a friend to download some photos on his computer and he got the same message. Why the card reader worked on my other computer, Windows vista 32 bit, is still a mystery.thaks to everybody that responded.
