Frame rates must match and, if it were me, I would prepare my audio in Audition and use the prepared audio in Maya. If you need a rendered movie with audio as a reference then make sure that the footage is properly interpreted in Maya and make sure you are rendering a format that Maya will successfully playback at speed. I haven't used Maya for a long time and I can't remember if it will playback uncompressed files in real time. Uncompressed is the default from AE's output module.
I haven't worked on MAYA but The default rendering space is scene-linear Rec 709/sRGB and the After Effects composition is 29.97 FPS. I think you are having this issue as REC 709 plays 23.976 FPS. Please try and change the rendering space of MAYA and then try.
Thank you this led me to the right place. I was trying to change playback speed on Maya's timeline but what I needed to do was change the base working units of time in the main settings.
Thank you Rick
