I have received a password protected pdf via email which I have opened in adobe acrobat dc on my ipad. I am prompted for a password which i enter and can then open the pdf fine. However, I want to annotate the pdf, but get the following message when I try to select the commenting function, "restricted document: this tool is not available due to the documents' security settings".
If i open the document on a windows device using adobe reader, I can save it and make annotations fine. I do not seem to be able to do this on the mobile app for iPad (Adobe acrobat dc).
Is there any way round this for the iPad app?
Thank you for providing the detailed description of the problem.
The contents of the password-protected PDF document are encrypted (so that nobody can read the contents until the correct password is entered).
Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) have the known limitation where changes cannot be saved to encrypted PDF documents. Therefore, users are not able to make any changes (e.g. adding comments/annotations or filling out forms) to encrypted PDF documents.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
