Lightroom quit while Import was running-photos are missing.  How do I fix the index(?) so that I can see the photos?

Describe the problem in more detail. Exactly what do you see (or don't you see) on your screen that indicates the problem? Or better yet, show us a screen capture.

ALso please state the full version of Lightroom you are using, and state your operating system.

            Update:

I imported 17000 photos some time after it said there all import the Lightroom program quit.

When I look at some of the folders the number of photos is 0.   In the WIN 8.1 it says there are 10 photos (for example).

If tried to re-import a fold er that had 0 photos in Lightroom but it says the 10 photos are already there.

There are no errors when starting the program nor when i checked for missing files.   They just show 0 in some folders.

When I look at some of the folders the number of photos is 0.   In the WIN 8.1 it says there are 10 photos (for example).

If tried to re-import a fold er that had 0 photos in Lightroom but it says the 10 photos are already there.

Lightroom is not a file browser. It doesn't "look" inside a folder and see how many photos are there, as Windows Explorer does. So the two don't have to match.

If you can't import the photos, taht means they have already been imported and you need to find them in Lightroom. So, please go to the Library Module and perform all 4 of these steps to find your photos:

                1. Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel
                2. Turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)
                3. Expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)
                4. search for one of these "missing" photos by file name

OK --  I found the photos!!!

                  Here is what happened.

I imported several directories at the same time.

The first 10,000 photos same from the correct photos folder on the PC

And then something happened to the rest.  About half came from the photos folder on the PC and half a networked file server.

Since the networked server had backups for the original photos, the "Don’t Import Suspected Duplicates" option suppressed the photo files coming from the PC.

When I looked for the photos in Lightroom I was expecting to see them in the PC directories.   They were not there because they where duplicates of the server backed up files.

Using the Library Find command I found them in the networked file server directories.

Once I saw them there I knew that some how (probably it was me) Lightroom was using correct photos folders on my PC AND the networked file server backed up photos.

                  I know I used the sub-directories option.

                  Bill
