Time to do some readin' and tutorializin' on Rotobrush! You want to isolate the guy on a duplicated layer, then put the guy on the layer above the text. You don't animate a mask on the text at all.
...and start nosing around until you find the Rotobrush resources. You can NOT use Rotobrush intuitively. You need to learn how it works.

When you are compositing it is always best to arrange layers as if they were in the real world. In your case the best result with the least amount of work would be toduplicate the footage layer, place the text layer between the duplicates, roto only the portion of the man that you want to appear in front of the text layer using Rotobrush, then refine the matte to make the edges and light wrap look natural.
