This error message indicates you do not have the proper permissions on your destination folder.
So, go to the Lightroom Import Dialog box and on the right is a Destination section. Make a note of the exact folder specified there. Then go to your operating system, find that exact folder and then change the permission on the folder to WRITE permission.
Thanks - but the permissions looked OK. The problem occurred as an update to Yosemite was loading/installing (the one with Photos ironically) a few things have not been the same since. My laptop has the new Yosemite but works OK. I have given up on LR on my desktop and will use Photos for storing and backup whilst using LR on my laptop to screen and edit, not perfect but I am fed up fiddling with it and want to move on, thanks again
Often it is the destination folder that gets changed, so if you check the permissions on the folder where you have copied the photos to in the past, that might no longer be where Lightroom is trying to copy the photos into.
Anyway, this is always a permissions issue, and if you'd like additional help, we'd need to see screen captures of both the Destination section and the permissions on that folder.
