Each application will have its own performance issues.
I haven't heard of general complaints about running InDesign if you're using a modern Mac computer like the iMac 5k, and have sufficient RAM. Since you're "pushing more pixels" at that resolution, RAM is very important.
What I will warn you about is that if you want to see a good retina display you must get a subscription to InDesign CC. InDesign CS6, a three-plus year old application is still offered for sale as a perpetual license, does not and never will support retina display.
