Is there a way to update an Illustrator file in After Effects

    Interobang

I have an Illustrator file in an AE comp.  I would like to add a few more layers to the file in Illustrator and then update the file in After Effects so that the layers will now appear in the AE comp.

      Is this possible?

Unfortunately if you have created a layered illustrator file and imported it as a comp the layer structure is fixed. Your only option is to open the file in Illustrator, save the file with a new name, add your new layers, import the new file as a comp and go from there. If you have already done some animation you can simply copy the animated layers in your original comp and, after deleting them in the new comp, paste....

Sometimes if I have the feeling that I may need some more layers down the road I'll add a few layers with an unfilled rectangle in them to the AI file so that I can put stuff in them layer. When you do that edit original will let you make changes. It's not a perfect solution.
