I've just accidentally copied some files around in my catalog, and I now have a bunch of files in a folder not sorted by date (which I normally do). I managed to copy a bunch of images to the 2014 folder, so that folder now contains a lot of images rather than them being in subfolders. Is there any way to fix this other than copying them to the appropriate date folders by hand? I can't find anything which allows me to say "copy these files to this folder, but organise them by date under it".
Thanks in advance for any help!
I am not aware of any way to do this automatically. However, doing it by hand should not be that hard. You just need to have your file browser show you the "create date" of the image, then sort by that date.
Thanks Joe. Unfortunately there's quite a few of them. Also, I have to move them using Lightroom, correct? Otherwise the catalog will not be correctly updated. Can I move them externally (using finder or a shell script) and then get Lightroom to find the missing images? It still looks like I have to tell it where each photo is individually, from what I've read online.
If you move them externally, you do need to relink them once back in LR.
As you relink them, LR should do some automatic relinking as it finds "near by" files.
