I am trying to open a file from another designer. It is an InDesign CS5.5 file which is the version that I use. However, I am getting an error message when I try to open it: "Cannot open 'filename'. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign."
In the window there is a long list of plug-ins.
My first question is how do I confirm that my plug-ins are up to date? I have checked the Extensions Manager and do not see an option to update plug-ins.
Secondly, is there a workaround for this?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
It means that the designer is using a version of InDesign later than yours.
You'll need to contact them and have them save the file as an IDML. File > Save As > Format: InDesign CS4 or later (IDML). Then you can open the IDML. If they've used features in the version which are not supported in yours it won't be exactly the same.
Is your CS5.5 fully patched? Make sure you’re at 7.5.3. If you do that my guess is that the error message will change to tell you it was created with a later version of InDesign.
Thanks to both of you…
I did upgrade to 7.5.3 and got the message that the files were created in CS6.
I appreciate the help!
