    DW 8.02 updater problem

    roodz
I just installed DW 8.02 updater today. I opened a page in DW and it said there was a problem with an swf on the page. I clicked OK to let DW fix it and when I saved the page and sent it back to the server it came up with the SWF missing. It is still playing fine in DW but not in IE. History wouldn't let me go back to change it and now I don't know how to get back to where I was.
I realized there was a change in flash on DW, but it was still displaying and working. Now it's gone. I was hoping the "fix" would fix! lol!

I hope you kept a backup.

I posted a list of Adobe technotes and other issues with the updater at my
          blog:
          http://www.tom-muck.com/blog/index.cfm?newsid=132

I would suggest reading all the technotes before doing the update, or not
doing the update at all for a while.

OK, I just deleted "no script" and got the swf back.

We haven't seen this issue before, so if you can post reproducible
steps and some sample code, we'd really like to investigate this. Do
you perhaps have a backup of your original file, or files with similar
code that haven't been updated yet? Please backup your other files
before opening them in DW 8.0.2 and running the active content fix, in
case the same thing happens again.

              Thanks,

I had the same problem, but then realized that I had to upload the new
Scripts folder that Dreamweaver created in the root. After that it worked
                perfectly.

I just noticed that folder too.

Would be nice to know what it is all for.

It's for the new way that DW has to code embedded Flash. If you see it in a
local site, you need to upload it.

So it only relates to Flash? And if I don't use Flash, then I don't need it?

Then that's puzzling, as I don't use Flash at all, and yet the folder showed
                      up.

                      Just curious.

I am having the same problem, but with quicktime movies, not showing right after applying the 8.02 update and letting Dreamweaver automatically make changes to my page. I did upload the Scripts directory. Taking the <noscript> out does work, but then you still have the IE problem of ActiveX content, so you are basically back to the way it was before the 8.02 update.

I cannot figure out why the movie will not play. I just get the Quicktime logo with a question mark in it, instead of my movie. In Firefox the movie plays, but will not play in IE version 6.02900.2180 XP SP2. Quicktime version 7.02. Pages with the old code work fine other than having to click the box to run ActiveX content.

                        Sample Code

                          hi murray,

does this mean that the updated version of dw now automatically accounts for the much talked about flash/ie issue... and that we need not employ one of the various workarounds?

Yes. It'll automatically 'workaround' when you do the insertion. Further,
when you open a page with an old-style Flash embed, it'll prompt you to fix
                            it.

I made sure to upload the script folder and file at the root level and it still does not display the SWF files on IE or Safari, older or newest versions. I have tried it 3 times and now have gone back to the original way, though still using Dreamweaver 8.0.2.

I am using a MAC, OS v4.6. Could it be that the 8.0.2 Dreamweaver update is not working properly with the Mac?

                                        http://www.adobe.com/go/2f98fbe7

This is pretty much the same content you'll see if you click the Help
button in Dreamweaver when it's displaying the Convert Active Content
                                        dialog box.

I have done all of this 3 times and it simply does not work.

From David Alcala, Adobe Technical Support -
"Clicking Yes in either of the first two Convert Active Content dialog boxes causes Dreamweaver to locate existing object tags that contain param tags and/or embed tags, wrap those object tags in noscript tags, and add script tags that enable the expected functioning of active content by calling JavaScript functions in an external file. Dreamweaver creates this external file (AC_RunActiveContent.js), and places it in a new folder (called Scripts, placed at the root of your site) when you save the updated file. It is extremely important that you upload the AC_RunActiveContent.js file when you upload the updated page, either manually or by clicking Yes in the Dependent Files dialog box."

Like Murray mentioned earlier, can you post a link or some code? It'd
be nice to see the page before running the active content fix and
after the active content fix. A bare bones example would be ideal.

Can you reproduce the problem on a new page?

Dreamweaver creates this external file (AC_RunActiveContent.js), and places it in a new folder (called Scripts, placed at the root of your site) when you save the updated file. It is extremely important that you upload the AC_RunActiveContent.js file when you upload the updated page, either manually or by clicking Yes in the Dependent Files dialog box."

In IE7 the patch for this goes away and one must use the JavaScript. So why, I ask, does the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 "active content fix" not translate the unworkable HTML to java for us instead of just doing half the job that it does?

I have read all this before and I do not see where it answered my question which was "what does the Dreamweaver fix in 8.0.2 not do this"? I have programs like Dreamweaver because I do not want to get into scripting and I expect the Dreamweaver upgrade that takes care of the double clicking activation thing to also take care of this problem. My question is still why did it not?

Has everybody who has working flash in a Dreamweaver site done this java scripting outside of Dreamweaver? Dreamweaver gives me the "Script" directory and the .js file so why does it not add the java code shown in these links?
