All editing to result in another iteration (TIFF) undergoes processing in a linear color space (ProPhoto RGB primaries).
So I think that ... these two work flows are not generating the same result (I'm sorry if I misunderstood your reply).
In my present workflow, 1.8 gamma applied on the linearly adjusted pixel values.
But, in the second workflow ... 1.8 gamma applied first and Lr adjusts these already gamma applied pixel values in linear work space.
One more question ... if you have enough time and patience for my poor English.
I open a DNG in Ps with linear ProPhoto (as a custom profile) and then I save it as a TIFF without any adjustment in Ps.
The original DNG and the TIFF file created so have different responsivities a little bit to the Lr sliders.
What can be the reason of this?
Andrew, in fact, I'm a little bit confused how Lr handles TIFFs and JPEGs in color managment perspective.
If you have any document or tutorial about this subject, I would like to read it.
The internal processing in LR/ACR is linear but what you pick for export from there is a different story. What are you selecting?
