I am working on creating an editable form and I understand the text fields and buttons in creating a form in InDesign, however, I would like to know if there is a way to create a text field that already has text in it, but has the ability to be edited in acrobat? For example, I want to create a form that has computer specifications (hardware, etc.) and I want those pre-existing base specifications to be editable based on the particular project. Anyone know if this is possible?
It's not possible in InDesign to add default text. It would have to be
added afterwards in Acrobat, and of course if there are ever any changes
to the form, the work of inserting the text would have to be repeated
each time afresh in Acrobat.
If you'll be doing much of this, I would recommend checking out our
FormMagic add-on for InDesign which allows you to set the default text,
plus a number of other things (font, colour, alignment, etc.):
(The free version lets you create 1-page forms with up to 10 form fields
AFAIK, you’d need to add default text in Acrobat.
