    transparent gif background

    noddy5000 Level 1
      hi all
      (sorry a newbie to fireworks)

can any one help me, I have a text .gif I want to use with a transparent background so when put into web page you can see the background image of the page and not a block from the text.gif.

problem is when I export and lay onto of background the font isn't clean, its all blocky.
I'm not sute in fireworks the best optimization settings to use in terms of

      1. transparency: do I use index or alpha

      also:
the type of gif, should it be web adaptive, web 256, 128

heres my examplen to give you a better idea

      http://www.pmrltd.co.uk/text/example.html

would some beable to advise me on the best setting for achieving the best result

      many thanks

          Hi Noddy,

Design on a canvas that matches the background image of your HTML page
rather than on a transparent canvas. Export with Index transparency. I'd
probably choose a black canvas for your project.

            hi there

            so do yu mean,
            1.open new documents
2.import the background image or the section where the button is going to lay over...is this correct???
            3. select index transparency
            4.export

will this not just export the little background that i imported???so the image will not be technically transparent??

have I totally miss understood you??, doh!
            confuced

No. Open a new document and select a color for the canvas that matches
or blends with the background color of the HTML page.

There shouldn't be any box around it if you are exporting it as a
transparency. Is this an image you are creating in Fireworks, or one you
are importing from another graphics app?

                      http://www.playingwithfire.com/export.png

Open it in Fireworks, choose Modify > Canvas > Fit Canvas, and then File
Export. Before exporting it, check the settings in the Optimize panel.

You don't need to select a matte color if you are using index
                          transparency. The rest is OK.

I'm not sure if my situation is the same as this or not. I want to use a transparent GIF in some elearning I am doing with Captivate 2. When I use it on a sold color background it works great. However, I also wan to display the graphic against a background of a web site, and this background has a texture. When I do this it causes dithering around the edges of the transparent GIF.

Can I use this background texture as the background for a transparent GIF, and if so how do I do it? In Modify>Canvas>Color I only see solid color options. Thanks.
