Lightroom runs out of memory with 32GB RAM

    photo-enthusiast Level 1

      OS X 10.10.3

Mac Pro 6 Core, 32GB RAM

Downloaded Lightroom via Creative Cloud yesterday.  Have not had Creative Cloud installed before.  Launched Lightroom.  Turned off "Adobe Everywhere", or whatever they call it.

Changed "Camera RAW Cache Settings" to 30GB, as recommended by Martin Evening book.

Went straight to the Aperture Importer.  Aperture library repaired, all photos on-line.

Begin the import.  8 hours later, OS X has told me the system has run out of memory, asks me to close applications, and I find this:

What is Lightroom doing?  How do others get by on less than 64GB of RAM?
