What computer operating system? Have you updated 12 to 12.1 yet? If not, please do so.

What are the properties of your source media?

What is your project preset (set by you manually or by the project automatically)? If you do not know, please see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if the fields look grayed out).

When you play back the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor are you looking at the rendered or unrendered Timeline.....is the line over the content "no color", "orange", or "green"?

Is this choppy preview restricted to one type of video format or to any video format that you play back from the Timeline?

If you open a new project, does the problem exist?

What is your intended export for this Timeline content?

Let us start here and then decide what next.

          Thank you.

Win 8.1 Lenovo think pad i7 2.8 processor 8 gig ram  1 tb hd.  Nvidia GeForce grafix card 2gig

I have had no luck finding a 12.1 update on Adobe website.

Source media: avchd 1080 square pixel. 59.94 fps. 1920x1080. Progressive scan. Drop frame time code. 48000hz audio

Project presets are the same as source media.

Same source media in new project plays fine.

Same choppiness on all previous projects that were working fine yesterday.

Line over timeline is rendered and green

Different media makes no difference. Plays choppy just the same.

Intended export is mts. Avchd 1920x720 p file.

Thanks for the reply with additional information.

To update 12 to 12.1 you use Help Menu/Updates in an open Premiere Elements 12 project. Please let us know if that works for you.

There is no 12.1 update as a download from the Adobe web site. Premiere Elements 9 is the last version to offer update from Help Menu/Updates as well as download from Adobe web site.

Please do an export for one of these projects that have the choppy Timeline video to determine if the choppy carries over to the export. It is important to distinguish between a project workflow issue and preview issue.

Please consider and then let us know the results including the 12.1 Update influence if any.

                Thank you.

Just saw your post 3 after I posted (post  4).

                  Do you mean 1920 x 1080p instead of 1920 x 720p?

Do you want to export as 1920 x 1080p60? If so,

                  Publish+Share

                  Computer

                  AVCHD

                  with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30

and then, under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset, customize the preset to MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p59.94 or 60.

If any questions on that, please let me know.

Also there is no export to file to give you a .mts file extension.

You will find .m2t and .mp4 files extension under the AVCHD choice.

Just finished updating to 12.1. At this point after a few minutes of testing all seems well. Strange it just started to act up from that. Go figure. Thanks for your help.

                      Thanks for the follow up.

Just want to make sure you are OK. Did the 12.1 Update seem to resolve that matter moving forward?

From what you wrote, I was not sure if the 12.1 Update worked initially and then you had a setback or all remained OK after the 12.1 Update.

One of the perks of the 12.1 Update is that you got rid of the Expert workspace only Text Style issue. Those updates often contain obvious as well as less obvious fixes which get piled under "improved performance".

                      Best wishes

I appreciate you checking. It still seems to be working fine. I would have never thought about that. Thanks
