I opened Lightroom 5 yesterday to find it prompting me to select my photo catalog which it had never done before. When I found the catalog in the default location, nothing was in it. Besides it didn't seem like it could be the right file since it had not been updated in over a year according to the file "modified date". I regularly update my catalog as prompted whenever I close the program. So my attempts to restore this file have been unsuccessful since it seems like the wrong file to begin with. But when I search for another catalog file in my computer I cannot find one. I do not know what has happened or changed but right now years of work has vanished. Any suggestions would be welcome! Thank you!
Keep looking for your catalogue - as you probably know, it's a file with an lrcat file extension.
If you open Lightroom, look under File > Open Recent. That may give you a clue about where the catalogue is located. Often it's the second file listed - the first being the empty catalogue.
Third, if the above fails, what about your backups of the catalogue?
Thank you! Although I have no idea what happened to my original file, I did find my backup file, copied it to the original catalog file path, and all is good and restored. Thanks for responding to my query! I appreciate it.
