No. Particular is as good as it gets and in fact it is reasonably threaded. Those performance issues usually occur with sampling the textures for the particles or the layer emitter (when used) are inherent in how AE's temporal sampling works and it's completely beyond the control of the plug-in developers.
Thanks for the reply. I have 12 logical cores in my processor, and 6 physical ones, I am able to see how all 12 are doing at the time. When I am rendering scene, one core is busy 100% and all other 11 are more/less idling. The reason why, as guys from Red Giant confirmed it is single threaded plugin, and they are planning in the near future to utilize GPU power to speed up rendering.
On the other hand I can see Boris Continuum is a great plugin, and they are using multi thread, GPU in their rendering engine. I am not sure if anybody has experience with Boris?
Boris is a good set of plug-ins but you can do things with Particular that you can't do with Boris. The bottom line is no matter what you want to do there will always be the best tool and the most efficient tool. They may not be the same. The choice of tool depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Sometimes doing exactly what you want to do requires more time. It takes a lot of experience to figure out which tool is best in every situation and every artistic or design decision has a cost in time. Answering the question as to which tool is best depends entirely on what you are trying to do with the tool. Since I don't know exactly what you are trying to do I'd have to say that Particular will give you more options, Boris may be faster, but CC Particle world may be the fastest and may be able to do exactly what you need it to do.
Hello Rick, thanks for replying.
Particullar is good, but what makes it very bad it is rendering time. I wouldn't mind long time if all my computer resources are used. I am sitting here with 4K composition, that is 28 seconds long, it has 6 particles emitters, and they are not too big on average 100 particles per second. Not as bad as it could be.
Problem I am having is only 10% of my computer is involved in rendering, rest is idling
I was thinking, about Boris plugins, if it is utilizing whole computer?
Depends on the layout and the design of your comp. Particular may not be the only bottleneck. As I said before, Boris may render faster but it may not be able to produce the same effect. I would suggest downloading a trial.
Rick, do you think I can have both installed, at the same time?
What are the restrictions of Boris Demo?
And one more, I can see they are almost identical, which one is older of two?
