The maximum file size is 64k pixels on the longest edge (so OK there), OR a maximum overall size of 512 megapixels, whichever is the smaller. I think your file is more that 700 megapixels, which makes it too large for Lightroom.
Thanks Jim Wilde. Is it really just 512 megapixels? Wow, that's weak looking at today's standards. I thought it is 300'000 x 300'000 pixels. That's what Photoshop supports as well. Is there a documentation about the max. pixels? I did not find anything.
It's probably documented somewhere in the Lightroom Help section, but I checked with Victoria Bampton's "Missing FAQ" book, always my first port of call if I'm not 100% certain of something.
You are correct. I found the following in the FAQ:
Well, it is for versions 2-5, but I the same limitations are valid for 6. Not really state of the art. Might have been OK in 2010, but not 2015. Too bad
What is the largest size photo I can have in a catalog?
Lightroom 2-5 supports photos up to 65,000 pixels long or wide or up to 512 megapixels, whichever is smaller.
Lightroom 1 imports photos up to 10,000 x 10,000 pixels.
