I have some footage of wildlife and one of the animals is wearing a collar that I need to mask out somehow. FYI the particular animal is in the background and quite small in the frame.
I am not very well versed in After Effects and was wondering if it is possible to mask this out somehow? If it were a still image I would just copy/paste (with feather) a section of the animal's fur over the collared area in Photoshop but I'm not sure how to go about this, or if it is possible in AE or PP.
Any thoughts are greatly appeciated...
This heavily depends on how the animal is moving and in particular how much the region with the collar changes in shape.
I would recommend to track the collar region in mocha, create a stabilized precomp with MochaImport+.
Then inside the stabilized precomp you can work in AE similar as you are used to it from Photoshop, i.e. you can copy and paste other regions of the image to cover the collar.
See this tutorial for details (it shows similar manipulations for a moving building, but for the animal you can use the same technique):
Also see this tutorial to learn how to apply the same technique to living creatures
The clown example here at 8:56 shows a similar manipulation, too:
