Invalid serial number

I am trying to reinstall CS6 that I originally purchased from Adobe and downloaded from the Adobe website in May 2012. When I run the install program, I am informed that the serial number is invalid and to contact Customer Service. I have entered the serial number exactly as it appears on the Adobe website listing my purchases; I have done this repeatedly, always with the exact same error message. As far as I can tell, there is no way to contact Customer Service--there does not seem to be such an option any more. All I find are endless forums, when what I want is to talk with someone who can resolve the problem.

I am reinstalling CS6 because I experienced a problem with one component, Acrobat X Pro. There are updates available, but I get an error message each time I try to update. The recommended Adobe fix is to uninstall Acrobat and reinstall it--but there doesn't seem to be any way to reinstall this one component. Now the update problem has become a much bigger mess, and I am very frustrated. What should have taken a few minutes at most has now turned into two and a half days--and still with no resolution.

Make sure you are logged in to the Adobe site, have cookies enabled, clear your cookie cache.  If it fails to connect try using a different browser.
