What is the actual code you are using?
If you are using AS3 and you have code attached to buttons, that will not work. Attaching code to objects is not allowed when coding in AS3. Code must be either in the timeline or in separate actionscript files.
All I am trying to do is a simple gotoandplay, and stop(); just a few
snippets nothing to crazy. See I have tried to put the code in an action
layer on the timeline and still come up with the same error. I'm not sure
if I'm trying to hard which is causing me to miss the obvious solution here
or what. Thank you for your fast reply by the way.

Are you testing just with a Flash Player SWF, or is it an AIR for mobile app?
That aside, look at this discussion:
The person there had a corrupt jvm.ini file.
By the way, when you get a good jvm.ini file, edit it to set more memory. It defaults to 256, but I tend to set 1024. Like:
Maybe that's where I went wrong I was told to go lower on the JVM think I
set it at 128. I'll go ahead and set it higher to see if that helps any.
